Visualant, Inc. to Launch ChromaID(TM) Scanner Evaluation Kit in 2013

SEATTLE, Wash., Oct 24, 2012 (Menafn - GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) --via PRWEB - Visualant, Inc. VSUL, a Seattle tech company, announced today its plans to launch a ChromaID(TM) scanner evaluation kit in 2013. The decision came after Visualant's executive leadership team returned from its inaugural trade show in Japan where they successfully demonstrated working prototypes of its Cyclops 6 ChromaID(TM) hand-held scanner. Cyclops 6 is significant because it was built by licensee and investor Sumitomo Precision Products with the intention of being the first step in transferring the technology to market.

Cyclops 6 contains thirty four LED Emitters which paint structured light onto a substance, through a liquid/gas, or off a surface, and then captures the reflected light in a simple Photodiode. The result is a unique ChromaID(TM) profile which can be matched against existing databases to identify, detect, or diagnosis markers invisible to the human eye.

"It was very gratifying to walk into this major trade show and to see our technology on display among so many innovative and high quality products demonstrated by the Japanese Instrumentation Manufacturing Association member companies," said Visualant's CEO Ron Erickson. "This group (JIMA) totally understands the path we are on from research to implementation of high volume manufactured components and understands the potential of the technology. Our team returned home full of excitement for our technology and our market opportunity."

Visualant used the show as a way to identify requirements for a Development Kit, which will allow customers and partners to evaluate the ChromaID(TM) technology for inclusion in their own products.

About Visualant, Inc.

Visualant is a public company whose shares trade under the stock symbol, VSUL. The Visualant Spectral Pattern Matching(TM) technology directs structured light onto a substance, through a liquid/gas, or off a surface, to capture a unique ChromaID. When matched against existing databases, a ChromaID(TM) can be used to identify, detect, or diagnosis markers invisible to the human eye. ChromaID(TM) scanner modules can be integrated into a variety of mobile or fixed-mount form factors. The patented technology is disruptive, making it possible to effectively conduct analyses in the field that could only previously be performed by large and expensive lab--based tests.

Visualant entered into a one year Joint Development Agreement on May 31, 2012 with Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd. ("SPP"), which focuses on the commercialization of the SPM technology and a License Agreement providing SPP with an exclusive license of the SPM technology in identified Asian territories. Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd. is publicly traded on the Tokyo and Osaka Stock Exchanges and has operations in Japan, United States, China, United Kingdom, Canada, and other parts of the world. Additional information on SPP is available at http://www.spp.co.jp/English/index2-e.html
