HELPING HANDS: Kids Plus Food Drive ... Toys for Tots ... 'Toys for Tickets'
Nov 24, 2012 (Menafn - Grand Forks Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Kids Plus Food Drive: The UND Nonprofit Leadership Student Association, Great Plains Food Bank, Northlands Rescue Mission, Hugo's grocers and the Greater Grand Forks Community Theatre are collecting food for the Kids Plus Food Drive. The project will supply food for long weekends and holidays for children who qualify for free or reduced-cost school lunches. Donations will be accepted at all Hugo's locations through todayNov. 23 in the form of 5 or 10 pre-packaged bags, or by donating the following items: Capri Sun/juice boxes (no hot chocolate); fruit and veggie cups/cans, smaller individual sizes and pop-top; family sized boxes of mac-n-cheese; items such as Zataran's rice and beans (protein); soup (pop-top); Spaghetti-O's; Gold-fish snacks; oatmeal and small boxes of cereal. --Toys for Tots: United Way is the Grand Forks area coordinator for the National Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive. Organizers will collect new, unwrapped toys for children from birth to age 12 in Grand Forks County and the city of East Grand Forks through Dec. 5. Go to www.unitedwaygfegf.org for a list of collection sites. Toys also may be dropped off at the United Way office, 1407 24th Ave. S., Suite 400, Grand Forks.
--'Toys for Tickets': The Mayville (N.D.) State University women's basketball team is sponsoring its "Toys for Tickets" drive at the home women's basketball games Nov. 27 and Dec. 1. Anyone who brings a brand new, unwrapped toy to the game on either or both nights will be admitted free of charge. All toys collected will be donated to underprivileged children in Traill County, N.D. MaSU will play University of Minnesota-Morris at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 27 and host Crossroads College at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
--Pizza Ranch Tip Night: The UND Nonprofit Leadership Student Association will host a Tip Night fundraiser for NLSA from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 28 at Pizza Ranch, 3750 32nd Ave. S., Grand Forks. Bring an NLSA invitation or mention it over the phone when ordering for carry out or delivery and Pizza Ranch will donate 20 percent of the tip to NLSA so its members can attend the Alliance Management Institute in January. --Stuff-A-Caboose: The Northern Plains Railroad Stuff-A-Caboose, a train that will collect toys and sports equipment for children and teens for Christmas, will stop Dec. 8 at Fordville, N.D., at 9 a.m.; Lankin, N.D., at 10:45 a.m.; Adams, N.D., at noon; and Nekoma, N.D. at 2:15 p.m. Santa will be on board the caboose handing out treats to the kids. --Relay for Life Zumba: The Ace/Titan Relay for Life Team will have a Zumba Party benefit from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 8 at Gene's Bar & Grill, Party Room, Roseau, Minn. --Sox for Kids: The 24th annual Sox for Kids, sponsored by Hatton Community and Hatton Men's Club, will be Dec. 8 at the Hatton (N.D.) Community Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the auction, which benefits area children during the Christmas season, will begin at 6 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase. You must be 21 or older to attend.
