BRIEF: Armed man robs Pasadena Rite-Aid
Oct 09, 2012 (Menafn - Pasadena Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --A man who pulled a gun on a Rite Aid clerk on Monday morning fled before he could get his hands in the register but got away with about 120 in electronics, according to Pasadena police.
The robbery occurred at about 9 a.m. in the Rite Aid at 1038 E. Colorado Blvd., near Catalina Avenue.
The gunman appeared to be in his late 20s, Latino, about 5'-8" tall and sported a goatee, said Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema. He wore black jeans, a black jacket and sunglasses.
Before pulling his gun, the man approached the counter as if to purchase a computer flash drive and other goods, said Hettema. He allowed the clerk to scan the items and appeared to enter a telephone number on a keypad in order to qualify for a store discount.
"When the clerk looks [at the checkout monitor] to see if it comes up with a registered number, he turns back around and this guy's got a gun on him," said Hettema. "The clerk just dives behind the desk, and the crook runs out of the store with the merchandise."
Hettema said the clerk's description of the assailant's weapon suggests it was a small automatic pistol.
A store surveillance camera may have captured an image of the gunman, he said.
