Landrieu Applauds Historic Manufacturing Investment by Sasol

Multi-billion dollar investment to create more than 8,000 jobs in SW La.

Dec 04, 2012 (Menafn - Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) --WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., co-chair of the Senate Natural Gas Caucus, today applauded Sasol's decision to build and operate its integrated gas-to-liquids (GTL) and ethane cracker complex in Westlake, La. The project is expected to create more than 1,200 direct and 5,800 indirect jobs for the Southwest Louisiana region. Today's announcement represents one of the largest foreign-manufacturing investments in the United States.

Sen. Landrieu met with Sasol representatives on May 30 during her visit to Southwest Louisiana and encouraged the company to continue its efforts to build the complex in Louisiana.

"Affordable, abundant and reliable natural gas makes today's announcement a reality. When we produce energy in Louisiana, we produce jobs in Louisiana. Sasol's investment demonstrates the vitality of America's natural gas renaissance," Sen. Landrieu said. "By harnessing our energy resources, we are bringing manufacturing back home, creating thousands of jobs and securing America's energy independence. I look forward to working with Sasol on this facility and its future projects."

On June 21, Sen. Landrieu sent a letter http://www.landrieu.senate.gov/files/documents/2012_06_21_sasol.pdf in support of Sasol's application for Department of Energy funding for research into enhanced oil recovery techniques. This technology is able to produce oil from wells that were previously thought to be no longer containing recoverable resources.
