Jun 21, 2012 (Menafn - The Wisconsin State Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Downtown vision: Mayor Paul Soglin will share his vision for Downtown before the Madison Downtown Coordinating Committee at 5:30 p.m. in Room 108 of the City-County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The committee will also hear a police report on the Mifflin Street Block Party and escalating violence Downtown and consider proposals to ban taxis from waiting for passengers on State Street and panhandling within 150 feet of a licensed alcohol establishment on the State Street Mall Concourse.
Jobless claims: Labor Department releases weekly jobless claims; Freddie Mac releases weekly mortgage rates; National Association of Realtors releases existing home sales for May; Conference Board releases leading indicators for May.
Heroin death: A plea hearing is scheduled Thursday for Dane A. Schrader, 24, who allegedly bought heroin for his friend, Matthew W. Hans, 24, who died from an overdose. Schrader is charged with first-degree reckless homicide.
Drunken driving death: An arraignment for Ekaterina Topolkaraeva, 27, who is charged with homicide by drunken driving and homicide by negligent driving for the death of Jeffrey L. Droster, is scheduled in court on Thursday.
Solstice Stroll: Participating locally owned businesses are staying open late Thursday for the Solstice Stroll, an event pegged to the week in which there is the most daylight in the Northern Hemisphere. The promotion, which runs from 5 to 9 p.m., is being organized by Dane Buy Local in partnership with Madison's Central Business Improvement District and the Monroe Street Merchants Association.
