Key Largo family busted for shoplifting from five stores
Jul 07, 2012 (Menafn - Florida Keys Keynoter - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --The Key Largo family that shops together steals together, the Monroe County Sheriff's office alleges.
Three members of the same family were arrested in Key Largo Wednesday afternoon, accused of shoplifting more than 700 worth of goods from Publix, Kmart, Beall's Department Store, Shell World and West Marine.
Charged with five counts of misdemeanor theft are Edy Martinez Lezcano, 29; his wife Maria de los Angeles Betancourt, 37; and Betancourt's mother, Eustasia Gonzalez, 57.
The Sheriff's Office says they were caught when a Publix employee saw Martinez Lezcano walk out of the store with a basketful of groceries at 4 p.m. She told her manager, who called the Sheriff's Office.
When Deputy Michael Sielicki got there, he found Martinez Lezcano standing in front of Kmart; both stores are in Trade Winds Plaza at mile marker 101.4.
Meanwhile, Betancourt was stopped by Deputy Christian Galls in their H3 Hummer a short distance away and taken back to Publix. The Publix manager identified her and the vehicle and said the Hummer was the one the stolen items were loaded into. Gonzalez was found in another area of the parking lot.
That's when the Kmart manager approached the deputies sand said the suspected took goods from his store, too.
