UAE- Information security expo tackles digital threats

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Lieutenant-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander General of Dubai Police, officially launched the inaugural edition of the Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GISEC) on Monday, which runs until June 5. The event is organised and hosted by Dubai World Trade Centre and part of the Gitex specialist technology events series. GISEC provides a platform that assembles industry, government and thought leaders to tackle threats, issues and countermeasures in a digital age. GISEC focuses on the latest information security trends, cyber security legislation in the Middle East and cyber security solutions in addition to knowledge exchange via a strong conference line-up, which brings together information security experts from the private and public sectors. Lt General Dhahi Khalfan toured some of the exhibition stands of participating regional and global companies and witnessed product demonstrations of the latest security intelligence software, diagnostic hardware, web applications and a wide array of innovations designed to combat the rising tide of financially and politically motivated cyber attacks. The first day of GISEC 2013 was characterised by product launches and previews, as visitors flocked to experience next-generation anti-hacking technologies. These included EnCase Analytics, a new security intelligence solution launched by Guidance Software, a global market leader in digital investigations. This security package specialises in pinpointing complex threats that slip under the radar of conventional detection-based security solutions. Underlining the global scope of the topics and solutions at GISEC are 87 participating companies from 18 countries including Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Pakistan, Italy, Lebanon, Netherlands, Singapore, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, UK, US, KSA and India. More than 2,000 visitors are expected over the course of the three-day event. The exhibitors, experts and participating companies encompass all aspects of information security - ranging from education and training, telecommunications, business hardware, software, internet and intranet services, cloud infrastructures, data management, mobile devices, advisory services and many more. Participating companies include AirWatch, Akamai Technologies, Arbor Networks, Cassidian CyberSecurity, Comendo, Deep Secure, Lancope, Dell Sonicwall, Spire Solutions, Splunk and Watchguard amongst others. Trixee Loh, senior vice president, Dubai World Trade Centre, said: "Cyber threats are increasingly affecting all levels of society, whether it is national, local, or personal - the numerous industry heavyweights that have come together to share futuristic solutions reinforces GISEC's role as the region's premier platform for exchanging credible and topical information that shapes the cyber-sphere." "We are delighted to have attracted exhibitors and speakers from across the region and the world that can yield innovative cyber security solutions because information security transcends geographical barriers and demands a broad-based collaborative effort involving the business community, the public sector and various other stakeholders," added Loh.
