Bahraini budget deficit up to USD601m


(MENAFN) Bahraini Ministry of Finance relased data shwoing that the country's budget deficit increased seven times last year to USD601 million, reported Arabian Business. The Ministry also said that the deficit equalled 2 percent of Bahrain's gross domestic product (GDP) and stood at USD3.52 billion in 2012 and was lower than expectations. The official data also showed that expenditure of the government in the same year rose to USD8.63 billion, a 13 percent rise. It is worth mentioning that the Bahraini government increased its spending in 2011 in order to ease social tensions caused by protests by Shiite citizents.
