UAE- Students warned against performing road stunts

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Traffic and Patrols Directorate General at Abu Dhabi Police said it had intensified its traffic control to reduce dangerous vehicle stunts carried out by some students who "show off" in front of their friends to celebrate their last day at school. "This reckless behaviour subjects students to serious traffic accidents if the driver loses control over his vehicle," police said in a press release. Captain Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Traffic Control Branch Manager, underscored the need to intensify controls through civilian detective patrols in front of schools, in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region. He also said penalties would be firmly enforced against reckless motorists who violated traffic rules in line with the directorate's keenness to maintain the safety of students. Furthermore, he called on schools to prevent their students from performing dangerous stunts with their vehicles and motorcycles in front of schools and to report students who resorted to such behaviour. He also urged parents and families to educate their children on the risks of such stunts, to prevent children who did not have driving licences from driving vehicles, and to immediately report any such incident that students are indulging in. With the summer vacation drawing near, Captain Al Qubaisi urged parents to enroll their children in summer camps to utilise their leisure time with useful programmes that would keep them off the roads and out of traffic accidents.
