UAE -Etisalat forum tackles prime ICT concerns

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Emirates Telecommunications Corporation, the UAE telco popularly known as etisalat, on Wednesday hosted the etisalat ICT Forum, a one-day event that tackled key issues in the world of information and communication technology, foremost on how it can be maximised by users especially business entities. Chief financial officers and ICT professionals were on hand to discuss emerging trends, challenges and opportunities in business, and addressed a wide range of issues from cloud computing to cyber security. The event focused on how ICT can deliver the impetus required for businesses to succeed in today's economic environment, while at the same time making a lasting business value. For etisalat, the forum provided an opportunity to share its best practices and demonstrate to participants how the company is able to achieve cost savings for their customers through the provision of enterprise solutions and managed services that helped lower the need for dedicated in-house staff as well as for expensive network management and network purchases. An exhibition area that featured four dedicated zones for machine-to-machine platforms, cloud computing, managed services and smart home solutions was a major highlight at the forum, where participants were given first-hand insight on these services. Attendees also had the opportunity for one-on-one business consultation for etisalat's products and services. "With the Internet revolutionising traditional infrastructures, enterprises today are finding it increasingly challenging to adapt to changing environments quickly enough to keep pace with customer demands and expectations. This in turn is driving IT managers to look for new ways to ensure flexibility and agility in their infrastructure," said Abdulla Hashim, senior vice-president of ICT at etisalat, who was also a keynote speaker at the forum. "Etisalat has been at the vanguard of the change sweeping regional enterprises' approach to ICT solutions and managed services, leading the way in innovation and building new capabilities by synergising our partnerships with software developers to ensure that our customers always stay ahead of the technology curve," he added. Cloud services Jitendra Kapoor, etisalat's manager of Hosting and Cloud Computing, highlighted the launch of the telco's cloud services to the audience, describing the service as the "future of the computing industry". A survey among the participants after his presentation showed that 61 per cent "strongly agree" that the cloud is the way forward for the industry. Other speakers at the event comprised of industry professionals and analysts, which included Jyoti Lalchandani, group vice-president and regional managing director of IDC Middle East, Turkey and Africa; Nidal Taha, Middle East vice-president at Zservices (Zscaler Middle East Cloud); Zakaraya Alashek, senior product manager at M2M & Mobility; and Antoine Chamieh, chief executive officer of LG-Orbis Systems, among others.
