UAE's ENOC begins building 2nd nuclear plant


(MENAFN) Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) CEO, Mohammad Ibrahim Al Hammadi, stated that the company has started building the UAE's second nuclear reactor, reported Arabian Business. Al Hammadi added that in July 2012, the company obtained a construction license from the Federal Authority of Nuclear Regulation (FANR) and a No Objection Certificate from the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi to set up the first 2 plants. Furthermore, in March 2013, ENEC received the approval to commence constructing a third and fourth reactors. He said that the first reactor will begin operations in 2017, while the second one will launch operations in 2018, with all 4 projected to be operational by the end of the decade. It is worth noting that once operational, the 4 plants will save the UAE up to 12 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions on annual basis.
