European stocks end higher following weekly loss

European stocks ended higher after the first weekly loss in over a month, led by gains in carmakers and technology companies.

Vivendi (VIV) SA climbed 3.1 percent after Qatar Telecom QSC said it raised $12 billion to finance its bid for the French media and telecommunications company’s stake in Maroc Telecom SA.

Fiat SpA (F) advanced 4.1 percent as Italy’s industry minister asked the carmaker what it needs to keep its plants in the country.

Club Mediterranee (CU) SA, the French holiday-resort operator, jumped 22 percent after saying that it got a bid from two shareholders.

British stocks were closed Monday, for the Spring Bank Holiday.

STOXX 600 ended higher today by 0.28% at 304.20; STOXX 50 ended also in green, higher by 1.00% at 2791.98.

CAC 40 Index  

The French benchmark index ended in the green today to settle at 3994.25, higher by 37.46 points or 0.95%. The index opened at 3980.55 recording a high of 3998.05 and a low of 3976.41.

The best performers in terms of added value to the index were led by Vivendi SA which rose 3.30% to settle at €15.655. Following was BNP Paribas SA which surged 2.02% to settle at €45.115, while coming in third was Carrefour SA which rose 1.92% to close at €23.595.

DAX Index  

German equities advanced today where the benchmark index DAX 30 ended higher by 76.83 points or 0.93% to close at 8382.15. The index opened at 8346.60 recording a high of 8386.86 and a low of 8338.32. Within the index, 28 ended higher and 2 ended lower.

Driving the index higher by contributing the most to the index today were led by Commerzbank that gained 4.14% to €8.024; following was by SAP AG as it added 2.43% to €59.940 and ThyssenKrupp AG which added 2.04% to €15.470.
