UAE- Two Asians drown off Jumeirah beach

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A day at the beach took a tragic turn for four Asian men when two of them drowned and the other two were rescued by the Dubai Police. Port Police station Director Lt colonel Dr Al Abdulla Al Mazyood said the men swam in a prohibited area near Burj Al Arab along Jumeirah Open Beach on Friday afternoon, ignoring the red flag. Two of them were rescued with minor injuries, while the third man was rushed to Rashid Hospital where he was pronounced dead two hours after being admitted. The rescue team continued the search for the fourth person for hours until huge wave and low vision affected the search. The police found the body at around 5pm on Saturday, one kilometre away from the area where he went missing. The men reportedly started swimming a long distance when the lifeguard noticed they had entered the prohibited area, where there were particularly high waves. He tried warning them but the men continued swimming in the area outside the flags. A rescue boat headed towards the men, however, they were dragged far away by the waves. Rescuers managed to fish three of the men out of the sea, while the other was dragged further out by waves and they could not see him. Another rescue boat started searching for him until it became dark. He said that the police also rescued a child from drowning at the open beach, adding that many families are not abiding by instructions and allowing children to swim despite seeing the red flags. Abdulla said that at the weekends, company buses were bringing large number of workers to the beach, but many were not good swimmers and did not abide by safety regulations or signboards. He warned that people should not swim during bad weather conditions and in prohibited areas.
