Knowledge is key to economic growth: Mansouri


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, has stressed that knowledge today is crucial to production and economic growth around the world. This came in his opening speech at the 2nd "Economic Policy Development Forum", held under the banner "Sustainable Wealth Based on Knowledge" in Dubai. The minister stated that the UAE's efforts in establishing a competitive knowledge-based economy have excelled. The UAE presented its ideas pertaining to the importance of establishing a common GCC strategy in knowledge-based economy. Al Mansouri clarified during the forum, which was organised by the Ministry of Economy in cooperation with the Kuwait knowledge-based Economy Centre, that this revolutionary transition from traditional to knowledge-based economy has reflected positively on the domestic and international scene. It has increased production, created jobs and employed innovation and excellence in management. Mohammad Saleh Shelwah, Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Policies Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, stated on his part that the ministry ensured that the topic of the current forum reflects the global trend in knowledge-based economy. The forum facilitates the exchange of expertise with officials and experts in the field. The first session of the forum revolved around a number of topics including the definition of knowledge-based economy, partnerships with the private sector, and mechanisms to develop SMEs. The second session included the topic "Defining, Measuring and Emiratising Productive Knowledge in Corporations".
