Deliveries of 787 Dreamliner recommenced: Boeing

(MENAFN) Boeing Co announced the resumption of 787 Dreamliner deliveries, following a 4-month suspension, reported Reuters. The company had to postpone deliveries of the USD207-million aircraft due to a battery problem that raised safety concerns. The first jet that was delivered to Japan's All Nippon Airways has a redesigned battery system that includes a steel enclosure and other safeguards to prevent fire. The new system was approved by the Federal Aviation Administration on April 19 and the plane maker was allowed to start installing the USD500,000 fix on the 50 delivered planes that had been grounded, and those still at the plant. Recommencing deliveries of the 787 Dreamliner will allow Airbus to book revenue for completed sales of the jet and will reduce the company's profit margin in the near-term. It is worth noting that regulators grounded the global Dreamliner fleet in January as two lithium-ion batteries overheated and smoked on two different planes in the month.
