UAE- Visitor accused of fake dollar shopping spree


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 32-year-old Nigerian man, who allegedly tried to purchase laptops and iPad with fake dollar bills, has been charged in the Court of First Instance with the attempt to circulate fake currency. An Indian shop owner, 44, said that the accused reached his shop in Naif around midday on July 23 last year. "He ordered five laptops and one iPad worth Dh6,700". The complainant said that the accused paid $1,850 which consisted of $50 bills and was handed his order. "We send one of our staff to an exchange outlet later to have the money converted into dirhams. But he was told it was all fake." He lodged a complaint with the Naif police station. A police lieutenant said that the accused was arrested by the Murraqqabat police station after he was involved in a similar crime.
