UAE- Airport worker jailed for stealing cop's phone


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An airport worker who stole a mobile phone belonging to a police officer, and threw the SIM card in the toilet, has been sentenced to three months in jail. The case dates back to March 14 when the defendant, a 24-year-old Pakistani, stole the officer's smartphone which was left by the busy officer on a table, the Court of First Instance heard on Thursday. The police officer said that at about 4.15am he left his phone on a table shelf next to him, as he was busy searching the baggage of the travellers at the Dubai International Airport. Later when he tried to look for it he couldn't find it. He then registered a complained at the airport police Operations Room. On checking the surveillance camera footage, it was discovered the accused, who worked in the traveller services, had stolen it. The accused was arrested shortly after and the officer recovered his mobile phone about 4 days later from the airport police centre. The defendant admitted in the investigation that he stole the phone while he was on duty at the airport. He confessed that he hid it in his pocket and later threw the SIM card in the toilet. He then hid the phone on a shelf in the kitchen.
