Kuwait- Training courses being held for new sailors, captains


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Marine Heritage Committee at Kuwait Marine Sports Club has announced its program of activities for the summer, including the pearl diving trip, commemoration of the battle of Riqqa and fishing contest. In a press statement Saturday, Committee Chairperson Ali Al-Qabandi disclosed the 25th pearl diving festival sponsored by HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will be held from Aug 15-22, after the holy Month of Ramadan. He explained it is not possible to organize the event before Ramadan due to lack of time between the end of school examinations and start of the Holy Month on July 9. Al-Qabandi said the committee is keen on completing preparations for the diving trip and it is currently organizing training courses for new sailors and their captains. He added the registration for the diving trip will start on June 18 and the training camp for youth divers will be on June 22. According to Al-Qabandi, the diving vessels competition for the Public Authority for Youth and Sports will take place on July 6 and there will be a parade of all vessels on Aug 22; including those donated by HH the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad and the current Amir. Various events attached to the diving season will be held from Aug 13-22, while the press tour on the diving harbor will take place from Aug 18-19. One more event will be held on Oct 26, the 40th grand fishing competition known as (Al-Hadaaq), wherein the participants will use strings and hooks to fish. Al-Qabandi affirmed the committee's determination to organize important events, especially the diving trip in a bid to preserve the Kuwaiti heritage. He also expects huge participation in these events like in the past years.
