UAE- Man charged with assault on compatriot

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)   A man, who is a partner in a shipping agency, has been charged with assaulting a compatriot after the latter questioned him about a shipment he had sent through his agency. The 29-year-old Egyptian defendant is believed to have assaulted the other man, a flight attendant, on June 14 last year when the latter met him to check the status of a shipment. He was charged in the Court of First Instance with involuntarily causing a permanent injury to others. The complainant, 33, said in the investigation that he met the accused around 11pm on that day in Al Nahda in the Al Qusais area to ask him about a shipment he sent to his home country one year earlier, which did not reach its destination. "When he saw me he tried to run but I grabbed him and then the accused fell down on me injuring my left arm". The complainant said that he had to undergo a surgery later for his left arm injury. The complainant's friend and workmate, a 35-year-old Egyptian, confirmed his statement. "We went to look for the accused in the Al Nahda area. When he spotted us he tried to run away. He pushed my friend". The witness added that the defendant then fell down on his friend and caused him an arm injury. The Criminal Evidence forensic report dated October 7, 2012 said that the complainant was left with a permanent pain in his left arm and thumb due to the incident.
