UAE- Three, including student, accused of rape, robbery

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)   The Dubai Police apprehended three men about two hours after they allegedly barged into a flat in Al Rafaa area, raped three women and sped off, a court heard. The men, including two Sudanese - a montage technician, 27, and a student, 26 - and an Emirati footballer, 20, are accused of barging into the flat rented by Ethiopian housemaids on December 12 last year. After the ordeal, the women allegedly chased after their speeding vehicle and got the registration number, before going to police to report the crime. According to court records, the men, except for the Sudanese student, who is accused of being an accessory to rape, raped the women after threatening them with swords and knives. They also stole their mobile phones and Dh4,700. They were charged in the Court of First Instance with rape and robbery, using sharp weapons as a threat. The women, all runaway Ethiopian housemaids, aged between 23 and 28, faced prostitution charges, though all deny the charges. One of the women said that they heard the door's bell and when they opened it the accused pushed the door and barged in, threatening them with swords and knives. "We gave them our mobile phones and money because we felt scared". The 24-year-old Ethiopian said that the accused then took turns raping three of them in a room. The defendants then rounded the women up in a room and closed it with a key and fled the place. However, the women opened the room with a spare key, before chasing after the men and calling the police with the registration number. A police lieutenant said that a rape and robbery incident on four African women was reported at Al Rafaa Police Station, with police on alert for the car. "About two hours later they were caught and taken to Al Qusais Police Station and from there referred to Al Rafaa Police Station". The lieutenant questioned the accused and they alleged they had met two of the women in Khaled Bin Al Waleed Street and they agreed to have sex with them for money. "The women then took a cab to their flat in Al Rafaa and the accused followed them, the men claimed". The defendants alleged the women let them into their place willingly but they later fought over the money they had to pay. The defendants later led the police to where they buried the stolen items in a sandy location in the Sonapour area. The stolen money was recovered from them. The women were found to have been runaway housemaids staying illegally in the country, and were taken into police custody.
