UAE- Man imprisoned for stabbing brother


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A man who tried to kill his older brother was sentenced in absentia to a year in jail on Monday and fined Dh1,500. The sentence was handed down in the Court of First Instance and the case dates back to November 18 last year when the police were called to a stabbing incident at a flat in Al Warqa 1. The unemployed accused, 24, told the police that he stabbed his older sibling with a knife in selfdefence, after the latter beat him. The stabbed brother, 30 said that at about 4.30pm on that day he heard his sister screaming. "The accused was threatening her. I became angry and I slapped him," he told the prosecution. The accused then took a knife from his pocket and stabbed his brother in his chest. The defendant's sister, 21, testified that her older brother had to intervene when she was arguing with the accused. "When he punched him, my younger brother brandished a knife and stabbed him in his chest," she said in the investigation. She the called an ambulance. A police corporal said that the older brother was bleeding before being taken in the ambulance. The officer quoted the accused as saying that he stabbed his brother in selfdefence. According to the Crime lab report, blood traces were found in the flat. The verdict can be appealed within 15 days.
