UAE- 100 consumer goods pulled out for testing


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Municipality received 33 complaints related to consumer products and pulled 100 products from the shelves for testing last year, an official said on Sunday. "We received 33 complaints related to consumer products at our contact centre last year," said head of the consumer products safety section at the Public Health and Safety Department of the civic body Naseem Mohammed Rafee. "As part of the inspection procedure we pulled out 100 products from the shelves to be sent to the Dubai Central Laboratory for tests to ensure quality and if other requirements are met duly," she said in a statement. However, the official did not specify the results of the tests. According to her, DM inspectors carried out 1,292 inspections at various establishments including groceries, supermarkets, hypermarkets, medical shops and other specialised trade outlets in 2012. In addition to that, they inspected 493 new shops and carried out inspections in 51 shops in free zones and 292 shops in the Global Village. The official said that DM has been cautiously carrying out inspections on a regular basis and has been taking immediate actions wherever necessary to ensure that all kinds of measures related to public health and safety have been maintained in the establishments dealing with consumer products.
