Kuwait win Taekwondo Champ'ship title


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait's national team won the 4th GCC Taekwondo Men Championship which came to a close at Qatar's Aspire Zone indoor halls on Saturday evening. The Kuwaiti team won eight medals, four gold and four silver. Khaled Al-Mutairi, of Kuwait, has been awarded as the best athlete. Medalists Sultan Al-Mutairi who won the gold medal of the weight below kg 80, Abdullah Al-Farhoud â€" silver below kg 58 weight, Fahad Al-Enezi â€" silver below kg 68, Bader Al-Enezi â€" silver above 87 kg. In the competitions the Kuwaiti team won three gold medals by Ali Al-Marshad, Abdullah Al-Enezi and Abdullah Hassan in addition to a silver medal by Mesfer Al-Ajmi. Hailing as "honorable" the performance of the athletes, head of the Kuwaiti team Mamdouh Al-Enezi said: "The team vied bravely for the titles of the competitions in all weights." "The victory notched in this championship will give a strong momentum to the team while preparing for the world taekwondo championship, to be hosted by Mexico in July, 2013," he said in a statement to KUNA. "We dedicate this special sports achievement to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as well as all Kuwaiti people," he added. The event gathered 48 athletes from the six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Kuwait was followed by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
