IOD India's 2nd Dubai Global Convention from today


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) After its success last year, the Institute of Directors, India, or IOD, is organising its second Annual Dubai Global Convention on Business Excellence from today in Dubai. This year's convention will be inaugurated by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development. A special address will be delivered by Ajit Singh, Indian Minister for Civil Aviation, who is also the chief guest at the opening ceremony. The event, which will run until tomorrow, will also have a larger delegation from Mauritius led by Sayyad Abdâ€"Al-Cader Sayedâ€"Hossen, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection. K.M. Mani, Minister for Finance, Law and Housing at the Government of Kerala, will be leading the Indian delegation with a number of business leaders. The 2013 convention, themed "Business Excellence: Key for Achieving World-class Performance", has been designed to bring together eminent thinkers, business leaders, policy-makers, change agents, business excellence experts, academicians, management consultants, social entrepreneurs, experts on CSR, sustainability and corporate governance from around the world. Companies participating include Abbot Healthcare, Metlife, Mahindra, Reliance, ONGC, Micro Labs, GVK, Dubal, Kanoo Group, Amity University, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, World Security Dubai World, Birla Sunlife, CMC, Tata Enterprise, Deloitte, Doha Bank, DP World, Global Indian International School of Singapore, ICICI, Yes Bank, Pakistan Petroleum and Vodafone India, among many others. Over the two days, the convention will provide a range of informative sessions and successful case studies on business excellence to extend your thinking and knowledge. Delegates will be reviewing different approaches and models for achieving business excellence and considering what changes might be needed to address contemporary challenges and opportunities. Also at the event, the Golden Peacock Awards for Business Excellence in the categories of both global and national will also be conferred. The awards, instituted by the IOD in 1991, are today regarded as the holy grail of corporate excellence worldwide; the secretariat receives over 1,000 entries per year for various awards from over 25 countries worldwide. This year, the IOD's Distinguished Fellowship will also be awarded to Hussain Abdulla Ali Al Shafar, chairman of Emirates International Insurance Brokers; Mishal Kanoo, deputy dhairman of thKanoo Group; Abdulla J.M. Kalban, president and chief executive officer of Dubai Aluminium; and Mohan G. Valrani, senior vice-chairman and managing director of the Al Shirawi Group.
