WB financial support for social safety net hits USD769m

(MENAFN) The World Bank stated that in the last fiscal year, which ended in June 2012, financial support for social safety net programs hit USD769 million, reported Xinhua News. The bank said that the funding, which is carried out through its International Development Association, has lift more than 50 million people from total poverty over the past years. It added that almost 60 percent of people living in developing countries and around 80 percent in the world's poorest countries need effective social safety net coverage. The bank's financial support for social safety net programs in low-income countries enables people in these nations to get access to health, education, and other basic social services.
