US defense contractor Oshkosh to discharge 900 employees

(MENAFN) Oshkosh Corp. stated that starting mid-June, it will discharge 900 production and office workers, reported AP. The defense contractor attributed the move to the constant drop in military vehicle orders as the Department of Defense spending is going back to peacetime levels. After the layoffs, the company will hire nearly 2,800 defense workers in Oshkosh city, however, it wasn't clear how many of its workers total will stay in the city. The latest cuts will bring the company's total job reductions to over 1,300 in 2013 through layoffs, early buyouts and not filling some office positions as they open up in the year. It is worth noting that of the 900 layoffs, 700 production workers will be discharged starting June 14, while 200 office workers will be discharged by the end of July.
