Kuwait- Dhaman launches index for guiding investors

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) he Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (Dhaman) has launched the Dhaman Investment Attractiveness Index (DIAI) aimed at guiding prospected investors about business opportunities and conditions in Arab and foreign states. A Dhaman statement noted that the DIAI index adequately describes a host of countries' attractiveness to FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) and benchmarks in many countries, including Arab states. The Dhaman Investment Attractiveness Index (DIAI) considers all identified foremost, measurable, and comparable aspects that affect FDI, covering a total of 114 sub-indicators. The DIAI provides possibility of performing detailed strength and weakness analyses for both countries and regions. It serves as a support tool for policy makers and prospected foreign investors for assessing reasons boosting or slowing down foreign investment in the considered region/country, and as a guide to solve problems, and indicates where to allocate capital. FDI in Arab countries is poor. The region attracted only 2.8 percent of global inward FDI flows and 6.3 percent of the FDI flows to developing countries according to the latest World Investment Report from UNCTAD. This is despite the adoption and implementation of substantial reform programs in most Arab countries covering stock market modernization and liberalization, state owned firms' privatization, and regulatory and legal improvements. Dhaman hopes that the new index will further help strengthen its role to provide activities complementary to its core business, in particular the development of research related to the evaluation of the business environment and the identification of investment opportunities in its member countries and to raise investment awareness.
