UAE- 4 inmates sexually assault, beat another, court hears

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Four prisoners allegedly sexually assaulted a younger inmate at Al Aweer Central Prison after threatening to kill him, beating him and burning him with cigarettes, a court heard. The accused, three Emiratis and one Bahraini, faced charges of sodomy and assault on others' safety in the Court of First Instance. The case dates back to November 6 2012. The victim, an Indian, 20 told the prosecutor that about one month before the incident was reported, the main accused, A.M., approached him and they went to a cell. The cell contained a bed and there were clothes concealing the room from sight. The accused asked to have sex with him, which he refused. After A.M. threatened to kill him, he gave in. After he was done, A.M. told the complainant that he was now 'like his brother and under his protection'. About three days later, A.M., with another accused A.I., asked the complainant to accompany them to the cell. The pair assaulted him after beating him. He gave in after seeing knives coming out of their pockets. A few days later A.M., A.I., A.S. and K.M., sexually assaulted him after burning his arm with a cigarette, beating him with a stick and punching his body. They took turns sexually assaulting him at around 3pm. He reported the incident to the warden about two hours later. A policeman of Al Habab police station told the prosecution that he received a complaint on November 7 about the assault. The policeman interrogated the complainant who claimed the accused took turns on him after beating him up. The policeman could not find traces or leads inside the cell to corroborate the complainant's testimony. The officer quoted the complainant as saying that the accused changed the bed and hid the pieces of clothing which could have had traces of DNA. The officer said he saw injuries on the complainant's hand. The criminal evidence report showed that the semen traces found on the victim's body matched with A.M.'s DNA.
