UAE- Six months jail for attempted rape of female subordinate

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A judge who retaliated in the court room to the unremorseful remarks of a man accused of rape said that he was lucky not to have been sentenced to 10 years in jail for the crime he had committed. Enraged by the verdict, which sentenced him to six months in jail for attempted rape, the accused, appearing in the dock, shouted: "I did nothing wrong to her" and asked the court: "So what if I did so?" In response to the disgraced manager's cold comments the judge replied: "Thank Allah the God that she had pushed you away from her and escaped, or else you would have got at least 10 years in jail," clarifying to the accused: "The woman did not save (only) herself when she had pushed you away, but had saved you too." The story began when the accused, a department manager, harboured ill feelings towards a woman subordinate after she rejected his advances towards her. Angered by the rejection, he tried to molest her at work. After the case was heard by the Public Prosecution, the man was handed down a six month jail term on the charge of attempted rape. The female recruit was appointed a position in the department where the convict acted as the manager in charge. The manager was enthralled by the woman's beauty and tried to strike up a romantic relationship with her, despite the fact he knew she was married with children. The manager himself also had children of his own. The accused wanted to get closer to the woman, but didn't know how, until he came up with a cunning plan to satisfy his urges. He planned to overload her with work, with the intent to tell her that he could lighten her workload if she obeyed his sexual desires towards her. One day when they were both alone at work, the manager approached the woman and made advances towards her, in exchange for 'awards' at work. The woman was shocked by the man's unwelcome advances and she resisted him when he leapt forward and tried to grab her. She pushed him away and left the workplace immediately. The next day, the woman reported the incident to the senior manager and requested leave for one week. She did not report the matter to her husband. Nevertheless, when the woman became aware that the senior manager decided not to take action in a bid to keep calm in the workplace, she informed her husband of the assault who then encouraged her to approach the Public Prosecution to file a complaint against the accused. Summoned by the prosecution, the man confessed to the allegations, but said he had not done anything wrong to her, asserting that she had pushed him down before he tried to hold her. The court found him guilty and sentenced him to six months in jail on the charge of attempted rape.
