(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) One British man broke another's jaw when he punched him twice in the face after the victim sexually harassed a friend's wife as they partied in a nightclub in Tecom, a court has heard.
While the victim, a 48-year-old manager, has been charged in the Court of First Instance with molesting the woman by touching her body, putting his arm around her shoulder and groping her, the British man, a 46-year-old employee, who retaliated was charged with assault on others' safety. Both men have pleaded not guilty.
The case dates back to September 17, 2011, when a 45-year-old British housewife testified that after 9.30pm she joined her husband and his friend, the man accused of assault, who were at a nightclub in Jebel Ali's Tecom.
The housewife claimed that the moment she entered, the man who allegedly groped her - who had not known either the husband or wife before that night - began staring at her. She said she did not pay much attention to him and she heard him asking someone if she was married.
"(He) suddenly stood by my right side and his body touched mine. He put his hand around my shoulder and groped me," she testified. The wife said the man did not care when her husband told him to remove his hand.She said the alleged groper screamed as her husband stepped closer and tried to take the man's hands off his wife.
The husband's friend then separated the two men and the security guards called the police.
According to the Criminal Evidence report, the alleged groper sustained a permanent injury due to the punch and had been unable to fully open his mouth ever since. He also had problems closing it. This had led to problems in chewing food and a chronic infection in his jaw cavity, the man testified.The accused man admitted in the prosecution investigation that he had punched the other man twice in the jaw.
