Saudi retired civil servants may receive higher benefits

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's Shoura Council submitted a proposal to raise retirement benefits for civil servants, reported Arabian Business. According to Fahad Al-Hamad, assistant to the council president, retired civil servants would receive a benefit of half a month's salary for each of the first 5 years of service, in addition to one month's salary for each following year, with the current cap of 6 months' salary to be removed. The new benefit matches that taken by expatriate workers and workers in the education sector. He added that the higher benefits would help increase the pension, which was notably less than the salary they used to earn when working, therefore, the new decision will facilitate and ease the lives of retired civil servants. It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia has 1.2 million civil servants.
