(MENAFN) The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that it has received a request from the Government of Qatar to acquire USD122 million worth of guided missiles and associated equipment, reported Arabian Business.

The agency said that the potential sale includes 500 Javelin guided missiles, 50 command launch units, in addition to associated equipment and support services.

It added that the aim of the sale is to improve the Gulf country's ability to strengthen its homeland defense, to meet potential threats and to secure its oil and natural gas infrastructure.

The agency noted that it has notified Congress of the possible sale.

It is worth noting that the Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin joint venture in Orlando, Florida and Tucson, Arizona will be the principal contractors for the deal.
