Qatar plans to spend USD17b on huge transport developments

(MENAFN) The organizers of the fourth annual Qatar Transport Conference, scheduled for May 28-29, will draw the guidelines for Qatar's USD17 billion huge transport infrastructure developments for 2013, reported The Peninsula. In February, Qatari Public Works Authority (Ashghal) granted USD1.88 billion worth of contracts, which encompassed the USD640-million Package 13 on the Doha Expressway. In addition, other giant projects still have to be financed, including Local Roads and Drainage program, the Integrated Rail scheme, Lusail City Development along with many bridges, tunnels air and maritime port extension schemes. Moreover, contracts of the Gold and Green Lines of the Doha Metro will be granted at the end of the second quarter, whereas contracts of the rolling stock and systems will be awarded at the start of 2014 and the O&M packages in 2015. It's worth noting that Qatar is working intensely to develop its infrastructure, as the emirate is preparing to host FIFA's World Cup 2022.
