Apple acquires mapping applications maker WiFiSlam

(MENAFN) Apple announced that it has purchased the maker of mapping applications for smart phones WiFiSlam, reported Reuters. The computer giant didn't reveal the value of the transaction, however, an earlier report by The Wall Street Journal quoted a person familiar with the subject as saying that the iPad maker spent nearly USD20 million to buy WiFiSlam. An Apple spokesman said that once in a while, the firm purchases smaller technology companies, noting that the latest acquisition will allow the firm to provide more and better map applications for users. It is worth noting that WiFiSlam develops technology that enables a smartphone to pinpoint its location in realtime up to 2.5 meters in accuracy.
