UAE- Student accused of using 'wanted' friend's ID card

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 19-year-old student who used his friend's Emirates ID card when crossing the Hatta border, has been charged with providing false information during administrative investigation. The accused, an Emirati, also faced the charge of unlawfully using another person's authentic document in the Court of First Instance. A passport officer of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigner Affairs (GDRFA) stationed at the Hatta passport check point said the defendant was arrested on January 4. "He was coming from Oman and he handed over the ID to the officers at the counter. While checking into the system database it was found that it belonged to someone wanted in a damage of property case," the officer told the prosecution. The accused was taken by a police patrol car to Hatta police station and he was referred to Al Habab police station shortly later. "When the accused learnt that the ID card's real holder was being wanted in a criminal case, he told the officers that he was not the wanted person. He claimed he just used the ID card to enter to the UAE," the passport officer testified. The accused admitted to the police that he used his friend's ID card as his passport had expired and it was at the GDRFA. The defendant admitted that he gave false information by presenting his friend's ID card when asked about his name at the Hatta border check point. But he was exposed after he came to know that his friend was sought for, for damaging the Bur Dubai detention centre. The accused said in the investigation that he had stayed for three days in Oman where he attended a relative's wedding ceremony.
