UAE- Girl fakes kidnapping for iPad

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Keeping tabs on children can be tricky as this incident shows. A 12-year-old girl claimed she had been kidnapped and called her father and asked him to arrange for an iPad as ransom. The father reported the matter to the police after he had called her frequently and found her cell phone switched off. A police team investigated the alleged kidnapping and concluded that it was concocted by the girl to get her father to buy her an iPad. "I tried her number but she was out of range. She later called and told me she had been kidnapped and her abductors would set her free only if I got them an iPad. I informed the police who saw through her gameplan.'' Lt-Colonel Saeed Hamad Abdullah Al Amri, Director of the City police station, Abu Dhabi Police, said: "On investigating, the policemen managed to locate the child at a shopping mall in Abu Dhabi." "She tried to trick her father by 'faking' her kidnapping after she could not persuade him to buy her the gadget, but it didn't work,'' the official said.
