Charter Pacific Corporation starts Mauritania iron ore drilling

(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors - Australia) Charter Pacific Corporation (ASX: CHF) has started a reverse circulation drilling and trenching program at its Kaoua El Khadra Iron Ore project in Mauritania. About 1,000 metres of trenching and 2,000 metres of reverse circulation drilling will be carried out over six target areas. The first pass drilling will determine the thickness and grade of the resource base at the project, which has previously been identified as having a potential Banded Iron Formation exploration target of up to 4.4 billion tonnes. Charter Pacific added this would also establish parameters for next phase of diamond drilling and metallurgical sampling. Trenching will be used to define the mineralisation width and grade. This program follows on from Davis Tube Recovery test on surface rock samples that return concentrate recoveries of up to 56.1%. Mauritania has established rail and port facilities while a new heavy-haulage road is located close to the Kaoua El Khadra. Studies of similar iron ore projects in West Africa support production costs of iron ore to be about one third of those in Australia, which will help keep the project competitive.
