(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) To commemorate the occasion of Mother's Day, Nova Medical Centre will be organizing a Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening Camp', to raise awareness about breast cancer, including issues related to prevention and early diagnosis, among patients and general public.

The camp will take place on March 24 from 9am to 1pm, at the Nova polyclinic behind the Zawawi Mosque in Al Khuwayr, followed by a surgical club meeting in the evening to further discuss breast cancer screening related issues.

Dr Rajyashree, Dr Malathi and Dr (Col) KM Harikrishnan will be conducting the camp, which is in keeping with the medical centre's aim to provide compassionate health care services in the country. Nova recently organized a successful colorectal cancer awareness programme to celebrate its first anniversary in Oman.

Dr Harikrishnan, GM, operations, Nova, says, ''We chose Mother's Day as the occasion to conduct this camp, as we believe that healthy women are the backbone of a healthy family, society and the country. We also feel it is a perfect opportunity to encourage mothers, aunts, sisters and wives to visit the camp and receive advice on preventive and screening services.

''Our doctors will be using the breastlight device to examine breast tissues and we are hopeful that this screening will increase awareness about breast cancer and spread the message that early detection can lead to complete cure''.

Dr Rajyashree, a leading surgeon in Muscat says, ''With changing lifestyles and rising disposable incomes, the traditional diet of most Omani families has undergone a drastic change. It now comprises of high proportion of processed food, which along with a sedentary lifestyle has led to rising cancer cases across the spectrum. This camp is an excellent opportunity for us to educate all people about the need for making necessary lifestyles changes, including dietary changes and regular exercising.

''Prevention is the best means to overcome the ominous threat of cancers''.

''We also want to highlight the importance of regular check ups among women, through this campaign. Check ups promote better health and reveal early signs of potential health problems among women. In this way, they can successfully prevent or reduce the major causes of negative outcomes'', she adds.

In a short span of time, Nova Medical Centre, a joint venture between the Omzest Group and Nova Specialty Surgery India, has established its credibility as a reliable health care provider in Oman; known for its best healthcare services, excellent nursing care and quality diagnostics.

Since its inception a year ago, Nova Medical Center has successfully combined the four critical elements of patient care - expert doctors, cutting edge technology, ethical practices and a caring environ
