Jordan's ACT completes phase 1 of USD140m expansion

(MENAFN) Jordan's Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) has announced the completion of the first phase of its USD140 million-berth expansion, the Construction Week magazine reported. ACT is a joint venture between the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) and APM Terminals. The expansion project will include 200 metres of new quay and the installation of two new Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and four Rubber Tire Gantry cranes (RTGs). APM Terminals said that the redevelopment of the quayside will allow the terminal to handle three of the world's largest ocean carriers simultaneously and will increase annual capacity to 1.5 million TEU. Last year, the Jordanian terminal saw container throughput jump 16 percent to 833,000 TEU.
