Brazil reports positive economic activity at start of 2013


(MENAFN) Brazil 's Central Bank stated that its Economic Activity Index rose by 1.29 percent in January from a month before, reported Xinhua News. On annual basis, the index, which is used to foretell the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through incorporating data on the activity levels of the industry, trade and agriculture, posted a growth of 3.84 percent. The bank said that January's monthly increase was the biggest since June 2008, when it recorded a rise of 3.17 percent. It is worth noting that the country's economy expanded by just 0.9 percent in 2012, lower than the government's forecasts.
