Ukraine Keeps World S Sunflower Oil Exporter Leadership


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Ukraine keeps the world's leading positions in the export of sunflower oil, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food said, quoting Minister Nikolai Prisyazhnyuk as saying. Up to date, the country's sunflower oil supplies to the external markets have reached two billion U.S. dollars since July 2012, the Russian Itar-Tass press service added. According to the ministry, Ukraine's sunflower oil export exceeded 1.7 Million tonnes over the designated period, which was 26 % more than over the same period of the preceding year, the press service said. "In the current marketing year [from July 1, 2012 through to June 30, 2013 â€" Itar-Tass], Ukraine has the world lead in the trade in sunflower oil," Prisyazhnyuk said, adding that 50 % of the world sunflower oil market accounts for Ukraine. In his words, one in two litres of sunflower oil in the world was produced in Ukraine. "Since the beginning of the current marketing year, the republic produced two million tonnes of the product. About 80 % of the volume was supplied abroad," the minister added. According to the Ukroliyaprom Association of sunflower power producers, the country produced 3.8 million tonnes of the product and exported 3.2 million tonnes of sunflower oil in the 2011-2012 marketing year. The overall capacity of Ukraine's sunflower processing enterprises is about six million tonnes a year, which much more exceeds the country's sunflower crop harvest.
