Kuwait- 'Toughen penalties against traffic violators'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) MP Kamel Al-Awadhi is concerned about the rate of traffic accidents in the country lately through which hundreds of deaths have been recorded among citizens and expatriates. He blamed the absence of deterrent traffic laws as the main reason behind the overwhelming rate of traffic accidents in our roads, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Earlier, Al-Awadhi proposed imprisonment sentences and fines against motorists who use their vehicles for purposes other than they have been made for, citing stunt activities on the roads. He suggested violators should be imprisoned for a minimum of 3 months period and one year by maximum plus fines not below KD 50 or above KD 500, noting it is also possible to punish violators by any of the abovementioned penalties. He stressed the need to toughen penalties against violators caught stunting inside residential areas. He urged the officials in charge of youth and sports to establish pitches for youths to practice their hobbies and racing away from the highways and public roads.
