(MENAFN - Arab Times) The Kuwait office of Al Tamimi & Company, the largest independent law firm in the Middle East, was recently awarded by the Islamic Finance News, the Islamic finance industry's leading publication, the "Sukuk Deal of the Year 2012" along with the "Kuwait Deal of the Year 2012" for its involvement in the Yusuf A. Alghanim & Sons' (Alghanim) pioneering Islamic securitization of the KD 12.5 million YAAS Sukuk Al-Istithmar Issuance.
Al Tamimi & Company was also recognized by IFN as the Best Real Estate & Property Law Firm. The awards ceremony was held in Dubai on 24 February 2013, which honoured each party involved in the deal, including but not limited to Rasameel Structured Finance Company (Rasameel), Alghanim and Al Tamimi & Company at a prestigious black tie event held at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers. Accepting the awards on behalf of Al Tamimi & Company were Alex Saleh (Partner & Head of Office), Philip Kotsis (Partner) and Paul Saba (Associate).
The sukuk issuance marks a landmark deal for Al Tamimi & Company, Rasameel and Alghanim, this being the first time an Islamic securitization issuance in the form of Sukuk has been used thus far in the State of Kuwait.
The deal was also one of five deals short listed among over 300 submissions for the Global Deal of Year. The awards are chosen from a pool of globally nominated deals and are presented to leading firms in their chosen categories and markets. The judges looked for evidence of legal expertise, innovation and strategic vision in the deals that were nominated. Al Tamimi & Company was up against a strong pool of other international law firms within these areas.
Partner and Head of the Kuwait office, Alex Saleh, commented on the awards by stating, "We are extremely pleased to receive such notable recognition and accolades from the Islamic Finance News. We want to thank everyone involved on the deal for their dedication and efforts, especially to the members of Rasameel and Alghanim who made us part of such a groundbreaking transaction in the field of Islamic finance. It is truly an honour."
Al Tamimi & Company's Kuwait office, a joint venture with Kuwait attorney Yaqoub Al Munayae, received the same two awards for the second consecutive year from the IFN, which highlights Al Tamimi & Company's position at the forefront of legal aspects of Islamic finance
