(MENAFN - Arab Times) History repeated itself early morning Saturday when an accident on Subhan Road caused the death of a youth and injuries to eight others due to a car racing event that turned disastrous.
A similar scenario happened along Doha Intersection three years ago when six youths died and many others were injured after a participant in a car racing event lost control of the vehicle that crashed into a line of spectators.
It has been reported that in the absence of security officers in the area, a group of youths on Saturday gathered on Subhan Road where they organized a sports car racing event. During the competition, two vehicles crashed into each other when another car crossed the road, leading to the death of a 27-year-old man, while eight people were injured, two of whom are in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses said one vehicle went up in flames and the other skidded off the road, turning towards the other side where several people were standing to watch the race. The deceased was transferred to Forensics while the injured were taken to Adan, Farwaniya and Mubarak hospitals.
Officials of the Interior Ministry, firefighters and detectives rushed to the location immediately after the Operations Room received information on the tragic incident. Investigations have started to know the actual cause of the accident.
The incident has become a hot topic in different social networking sites. Most people blame the ministry for failure to closely monitor venues for car racing events, which usually take place during weekends.
