Kuwait- Jail, deportation for raping minor girl


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Najeb Al-Mulla dismissed the verdict of a lower court, which had acquitted a youth of allegedly kidnapping and sexually abusing a minor, and sentenced the defendant to a seven-year imprisonment and deportation immediately after completion of the jail term. The judge referred the civil aspect of the case to the concerned Civil Court. According to the case files, the victim who is a minor was walking in Riggae at night when the youth drove close to her and tried to entice her with romantic words. He urged her to enter his vehicle and took her to his residence in Salmiya where he had sex with her, which led to the loss of her virginity. He then kept her at his place for two weeks where he had sex with her several times until the securitymen located them in the apartment. The plaintiff attorney Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan demanded for civil right compensation of KD 5,001, insisting that the victim went through moral and mental abuse and requested the court to consider the right of the minor. In another case, the Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Hani Al-Hamdan upheld the verdict of the First Instance Court, which had acquitted the director of Kuwait Municipality, his two former deputies, Maintenance Director of Capital Municipality, a cleaning company manager and former team leader of emergency at Capital Municipality from the charges of stealing KD 307,000. According to the case files, the Public Prosecution had accused first five suspects of helping the sixth suspect steal KD 260,000 from a company and KD 47,000 from another. It also accused the second suspect of forging official documents. Attorney Mohammad Khuraibet defended the fourth suspect at the court session, indicating that the task his client did on Aug 24, 2004 was work-related. He stressed that his client had good intentions and did not receive any cash from the Municipality as per the testimony of the accountant of the Municipality.
