Saudi SEC inks USD263m power contracts


(MENAFN) In its efforts to meet rising electricity demand in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has inked three contracts worth a total of USD263 million to strengthen the power grid in Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah in the western region, reported Saudi Gazette. The contracts, which were awarded to domestic firms, include setting up transmission lines and underground cables, Eng. Ali Al-Barak, CEO of SEC said. The first contract, worth USD51.7 million, involves setting up 380 KV transmission lines to link with Al-Salam transformer in Madinah, Al Barak said, adding that the project's period is 29 months. The second contract, worth USD141.3 million, includes establishing central cables in Makkah with a capacity of 380KV. The project will be implemented within 23 months. The third contract, worth USD70.04 million, includes setting up 380 KV underground central cables in Jeddah. The period of implementation is 29 months.
