(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) As part of its ambitious social efforts to support projects and programs that aim to develop the local community in all fields, Qalhat LNG (QLNG) and the Omani Charitable Organisation (OCO) signed an agreement to sponsor 81 students from needy families for degree and diploma qualifications.
This is the sixth year in a row where QLNG supports the educational programme implemented by OCO that has covered 428 scholarships with a total amount of RO825,000. The agreement was signed by H E Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud al Busaidi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior, the Executive Office Vice President at the Omani Charitable Organization, and Rashid bin Abdullah al Nasri, acting vice president for corporate affairs at QLNG.
Under the terms of this agreement, QLNG will support 81 high school graduates of low income families to continue their higher studies to obtain diploma or bachelor degrees from local colleges and universities. On this occasion H E Busaidi said, ''It is a great event to sign this agreement that is ideally consistent with His Majesty's emphasis on the pivotal role the private sector can carry out in the developing of the national human resources and youth education.
H.E. expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to QLNG for the continuous contribution that enables the needy students to complete their higher education. This help will certainly result in better and secured future for them and their families. He added ''this initiative is part of the social responsibility the private sector is encouraged to support in enhancing the skills of our youth and enrich their knowledge''. In this regard, Nasri, said, ''We are very proud today to sign the 6th agreement of this solid cooperation with OCO and we are thankful for the key role the organization plays in order to improve the life of needy families and make them self-reliance''. Al Nasri added ''the company pays high attention to the development of young Omanis to prepare them for the labour market.
As a testimony of this strategy, QLNG has achieved an outstanding omanisation percentage of 98 per cent and has been recognised locally and abroad.'' It is noted that QLNG has taken its corporate social responsibilities with great interest. This was evident by the decision to allocate one per cent of the Company's annual profits to the development and support of the local communities. Aware of its social responsibilities, as an organisation and being fully committed to making a positive difference within the society, QLNG's Social Investment Program (SIP) was designed to identify and invest in projects, events and causes that are of relevance to specific needs of the local communities, and the entire Sultanate of Oman.
