(MENAFN - Arab News) The Council of Ministers yesterday decided to allocate SR 600 per day for Saudis receiving medical treatment, and those accompanying them, outside the Kingdom, and SR 300 per day for those being treated inside the Kingdom. This is an amendment to the current law.

"Patients, including children, referred for treatment outside the Kingdom, will be given financial assistance amounting to SR 300 per day, for whoever is treated outside of the hospital," said Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja.

The Cabinet, which was chaired by Crown Prince Salman, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, commended Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah's opening speech at the Shoura Council session last Tuesday.

King Abdullah instructed the Shoura members to do their job efficiently making use of their knowledge and expertise. He reminded them that the Shoura membership is a huge responsibility rather than an honor.

Khoja said the Cabinet was briefed on the conferences, exhibitions, and scientific, economic, health, cultural and sports activities held in the Kingdom this week, including the Third International Education Forum and Exhibition and the First International Conference to Employ Technology to Serve People with Special Needs.

The Cabinet authorized the foreign minister or his deputy to discuss with the Board of Directors of the GCC Monetary Council a draft agreement regarding its headquarters.

The Cabinet also approved the Montreal Amendment (1997) and Beijing Amendment (1999) concerning the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

It renewed the membership of Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Ammar and Mohammed bin Imran Al-Imran (two businessmen) on the Board of Directors of the General Organization of Railways for three years.

The Cabinet appointed Jaber bin Mohammed Al-Shahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture for Fisheries as a representative of the ministry on the Board of Directors of the General Organization for Grain Silos and Flour Mills for three years.

The Cabinet appointed Yazid bin Yahya Al-Ayed, director general of the Water Department in Makkah region; Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Rukban director of Public Warehouses at the National Guard; and Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Muneef, director general of the Civil Service Ministry's branch in Makkah region.

"The Cabinet also discussed a number of topics on its agenda, including annual reports of Saudi Commission for Wildlife, and the Ministry of Civil Service and issued its directives on them," the minister said.
