UAE lifts ban on importing cows from EU


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The UAE has lifted a ban on importing cows from some European countries including Iceland, Norway, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Estonia, Malta and Hungary. Dr Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd, Minister of Environment and Water, has issued a decision, which stipulates the need to take into account the epidemiological situation of the exporting countries affected with infectious diseases, taking into account the other conditions of "raising and slaughtering" of the livestock in accordance to the laws and decisions of the veterinary quarantine in the country. The decision comes in the light of the ministry's keenness to implement its strategic objectives regarding its contribution to achieving food security and protecting the community and livestock from diseases and epidemics, especially the diseases that transmit between humans and animals, as well as preserving public health. The decision is taken after consultations with the GCC states, international organisations, especially the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), to make sure the health status in the countries affected by the mad cow disease.
