UAE inks Dh4b Idex deals


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The UAE has signed deals worth Dh4 billion to overhaul its helicopter fleet and to procure military hardware and various technical support services. On the third day of the International Defence Exhibition-2013 (Idex 2013), the UAE Armed Force spokesman Staff Major-General Obaid Al Ketbi said 17 deals have signed with the local as well as international companies to acquire military equipment, taking the tally to Dh14.1 billion. Adnoc Distribution, the marketing arm of oil major Adnoc has been awarded a Dh1.1 billion contract to supply fuel to the UAE Air Force aircraft, apart from land forces. The company will also manage and operate the fuel storage facilities. Hydra, an Abu Dhabi based firm will provide technical support for Loclerk Tank and BMP-3, Hummer, Tatra 109 Mortar and G6 Mortars. The size of the contract is Dh390 million. International Golden Group will supply various military hardware for Dh330 million. Provincial Aerospace Limited or PAL, a US firm have been awarded a contract to supply satellite communication or Satcom in a deal valuing Dh181.1 million. Major-General Al Ketbi said that the US's Lockheed Martin Overseas will supply ground support equipment worth Dh134 million. Mubadala Development Company's subsidiary AMMROC, a maintenance, overhauling and repairing company will provide overhauling of Panther helicopters for Dh143 million. Another Mubadala-owned firm Abu Dhabi Ship Building have been mandated to purchase and install satellite communication equipment on Baynuna class warships for Dh126 million. The International Golden Group have been contracted to supply shell charges worth Dh210.8 million. Tawazun Holding's Caracal Light Arms will sell various types of rifles and ammunition worth Dh132.3 million. US-based Fidelity Technologies Corporation have been contracted to supply fighting simulators valuing Dh49.7 million. Al Fattan Ship Building, another Abu Dhabi company will supply HITROL N Naval guns for Dh16 million. The UAE Armed Forces have signed a contract with US firm Geoeye Solutions to provide services for satellite imageries for Dh40 million. Al Badie Group, a leading Abu Dhabi firm will provide spares for tank transportation vehicles worth Dh34 million Italy's Wass makers of underwater equipment will provide anti-torpedoes survival effectors for the naval ship Abu Dhabi, amounting to Dh28 million. Pyrosafe Technolgies Trading will supply hardware for the naval forces for Dh16 million. The UAE Armed Forces showed its intention to purchase 1000 multi-purpose NIMR vehicles from NIMR Automative, which is a subsidiary of Tawazun. This intention, is in addition to an interest shown on the second day of the defense show to procure 800 vehicles, to take the total number of vehicles to 1800, giving a big boost to local defence industry.
